12. Interior
3/3/07 - Back from vacation and back to work on the car. Started installing the Dynamat today and got it about 1/2 done.
3/7/07 - Most of the Dynamat is installed. Still need to do roof and doors.
3/11/07 - Cleaned up the heater box, painted it, and replaced the foam gaskets. Replaced all 3 cables. Installed the box along with the defroster vents. Also installed the heater core and cover.
3/12/07 - Cleaned and refinished the dash. I was going to have the chrome trim done professionally, but after I did some research I figured I would try a chrome paint pen and I am very happy with the results.
3/29/07 - It's been a few weeks since I have provided an update, but I have been busy on the Bird. The fresh air dash vents are restored and installed, the stainless front brake lines are in, the brake/clutch pedal box is in, the dash wire harness / fuse box are in, and I also installed a new Ididit chrome column.
4/4/07 - Over the past weekend I finished installing the pedals (accelerator and e-brake). All metal surfaces were sanded and repainted. All pedals got new rubber, trim rings, and bushings. Still need to install the e-brake cable and handle. Ordered new e-brake and accelerator cables. Also found a set of good used fresh air vent cables that I ordered.
4/29/07 - I have spent the past few weeks working on the dash area and wiring. The dash face is assembled. The dash needed a new speedo and I also replaced many of the components like the cig lighter, heater control face and all of the knobs. The dash, heater controls and glove box are in but the dash face will be coming back out. The repro dash pad came in a box with the car but it is one of the ones that does NOT have the metal clips installed so I am having to glue speed nuts to the back of it to allow for the dash face install. I have put it on twice now and each time it seems I only get 1/2 the screws to catch, so it will be coming off again.
8/28/08 - Installed the ProCar Rally front seats today. There are well made and VERY comfortable. I love the side bolsters and the adjustability (they fold back flat). The install was fairly easy. Per usual, some hardware was missing but they were all common bolts that I could replace with high quality stuff. They compliment the interior perfectly and fit very well. They look pretty close to the console, but the bolsters actually angle up and just over the console. I wouldn't want them any closer, but the fit is very good. They are perfect for me, but I am only just over 5'8" and about a 38" waist. I would think anyone over 5'10" would need to do some "adjusting" to the seat adapters (I have heard of others having to do this). But for me, the fit is perfect.
11-9-08 - Simpson camlock belts installed and Budnik billet steering wheel set in place
